Helping Other People through Empowerment Inc. Wellness & Recovery Community Center
Helping other People through Empowerment Inc. Wellness & Recovery Community Center (H.O.P.E) is the combination of several initiatives that were established and dedicated to Ethel Elan. Ethel Elan was the Executive Director of Community Housing Associates, Inc. from 1997-2002. The Wellness Recovery Center was established in 2000 to assist individuals experiencing mental health conditions and homelessness. In 2004, Ethel Elan Safe Haven was established, providing a safe living environment for homeless adults who too previously were diagnosed with a mental condition. In 2013, The Recovery Community Center was added to provide additional services by reaching for and accepting another population, all combined to completing H.O.P.E.
H.O.P.E is a consumer run peer-support program, with the mission to provide a safe and stigma free environment to individuals who are in denial of needing or denied services because of disabilities. It is expected that residents and participants learn responsibility and take ownership and participate in maintaining the environment of the center. The goal of H.O.P.E is that the residents and participants acknowledge and be encouraged about working with staff on mental health treatment plans and developing and obtaining housing and employment within the community.
